XCIII. GROFÉ, Ferde (1892-1972)
Certainly Grofé's best-known work.
He had an active musical career playing viola in the LA Symphony, and -- perhaps his most important gig -- becoming Paul Whiteman's chief arranger for his famous big band -- including re-arranging Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue many times.
Each movement is a tone poem of the Canyon, painted in gorgeous orchestral colors.
The video features many gorgeous shots of the beloved Canyon.
[try the Grandview Trail if you want to get away from people -- or better yet, hike to the bottom and the take the Clear Creek Trail eight more miles (a punishing hike of more than 16 miles!)]
