CCCLXXXV. TARTINI, Giuseppe: Sonata #13 in B Minor for solo violin

CCCLXXXV. TARTINI, Giuseppe (1692-1770)

Sonata #13 in B Minor for solo violin
1. Andante (4:15)
2. Allegro assai (2:17)
3. Giga. Allegro affettuoso (2:56)
Michelle Makarski, violin

I consider it a great honor that I got to know Mickey my senior year at IAA. None of us ever doubted that she would become a major star ...

**

Tartini is best known today for his G Minor sonata, "The Devil's Trill," a devilishly difficult work.

First Movement

As was his frequent practice, Tartini attaches a "poetic motto" to this movement, hinting at the text in the music, creating a song without words.

In this case it is the line:

"Quanto mai felici siete, innocenti pastorelle" (How happy you are, innocent nymphs)

from Ezio by Metastasio ...

Second Movement

Lots of nice dissonance, like the Major Seventh (red) and Minor Second (blue).

Third Movement
