CDXLI. HAYDN, Franz Joseph (1732-1809)
Sonata for Piano #39 in D Major (1773)
1. Allegro
2. Adagio
3. Presto
Sviatoslav Richter, piano
(14:44)
First movement
Richter takes every repeat. Including the development section, which is nice because we get to hear that strange rhythmic confusion right before the recap (blue rectangle) ...
Second movement
Parallel minor (D) until Bar 9 -- an unprepared modulation to F Major (red arrow) and later a nice deceptive cadence (blue arrow):
Third movement
D Major: a bouncy Presto. Huge G#-diminished seventh chord in first inversion (vii°⁶/V) before the Coda.
