A composite work by six different composers, it was written to honor the tenth anniversary of Nikolay Vladimirovich Galkin's conductorship of the concerts at Pavlovsk.

The theme was chosen by Rimsky-Korsakov's youngest daughter, Nadezhda Nikolayevna from Balakirev's collection of traditional Russian folksongs.

Variation I

by Nikolay Vasilyevich Artsybushev. In the style of a triumphant march.


Variation II

by Jăzeps Vitols. Answering phrases.


Variation III

by Anatoly Konstantinovich Lyadov. Introduced by flutes and piccolo.


Variation IV

by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Introduced by trumpets and clarinets.


Variation V

by Nikolay Alexandrovich Sokolov. Taught Shostakovich.


Variation VI
