CDXXXVIII. DES PREZ, Josquin: Déploration sur la mort de Johannes Ockeghem

CDXXXVIII. DES PREZ, Josquin (c. 1450-1521)

Déploration sur la mort de Johannes Ockeghem (c. 1497)
Ensemble Clément Janequin
Dominique Visse, cond.
(5:55)

Whether or not Josquin actually studied with Ockeghem [see Post CXXIX] is open to debate, but he certainly knew and respected him.

We studied Josquin extensively in music history; he was so important in his many innovations of the time, just short of the Baroque period.

This homage is filled with beautiful polyphony and classy part-writing.

[The C clef for the Contratenor is the mezzo-soprano clef, middle C on the second line.]
