Did Bach intend these suites for violin? For lute? For keyboard?

We really do not know -- but obviously this music found an honored place in the literature for the violin over the centuries.

For a deep dive into the subject, read this. He makes the case that Bach couldn't have intended the lute, due its lack of an E string ...

Nevertheless, Ms. Mascardi pulls it all off beautifully:

1. Preludio

Justifiably one of Bach's most well-known works, this perpetuum mobile is both a delight and an enigma to the ears.

2. Loure

3. Gavotte en Rondeau

4. Menuets (I and II)

5. Bourrée

6.
Gigue
