DCXL. BACH, J.S. (1685-1750)
Prima parte
1. Aria (Basso): Siehe, ich will viel Fischer aussenden
See ye: for many fishermen men send I, said the Lord and then shall they fish them, and thereafter send for many a hunter, and then will they hunt them from ev'ry mountain and from ev'ry hillock, out of cranny and crevice.
2. Recitativo (Tenore): Wie leichtlich könnte doch her Höchste uns entbehren
How easily might God dispense with us entirely
When with perverted soul
We break from His control
And, obstinate of heart
From His command depart
But what, then
Of His Fatherly compassion?
Will He deny His blessing to us
Because we are not true to Him?
And in our woe consign us to the crafty foe?
3. Aria (Tenore): Nein, Gott ist allezeit geflissen
Nay, God is ever prompt and ready
Guiding us, secure and steady
By His Mercy's glowing ray
For even when we lose our way
Leaving paths of truth behind us
He will ever come and find us
Seconda parte
4. [Recitativo/Aria] (Tenore, Basso): Jesus sprach zu Simon
Jesus said to Simon: Simon fear not, from henceforth shall men be your quarry.
5. Duetto (Soprano, Alto): Beruft Gott selbst, so muß der Segen
Call ye on God, so gain His blessing
For ev'rything you do
And He will comfort you
Whenever fear and care are pressing
The talents God entrusts to men
Must be returned with strict accounting
So let your count be ever mounting
And God will help to make it
Grow to ten
6. Recitativo (Soprano): Was kann dich denn in deinem Wandel schrecken
What cause is there for me to be affrighted
When God Himself extends His Hand to me?
With but a little nod
From High Almighty God
My cares and worries cease
And all my ills are righted
When trouble, weariness, want, plague
And falsehood come, and seek to overthrow
And ruin your endeavor
Let no unlooked for blow
Abate your purpose ever
What God has planned for you
Is not too hard to do
Go joyous on your way
Let no dilemma best you
The hardships that dismay
Were merely sent to test you
7. Choral (Coro): Sing, bet und geh auf Gottes Wegen
Sing, pray, and walk in God's own pathway
And do your part with purpose true
By confidence in His rich blessing
Will you, thru Him, be born anew
Who so on God his faith has set
Him never will his God forget
