Most symphonies of the Romantic period call for three trombones, if trombones are called for at all.

Mahler wanted four here.

I usually sat in the bleachers at Interlochen's JVS gym, where the orchestra rehearsed, score-reading along to whatever they were working on.

Being the 4th best trombonist, I finally got my chance to sit with my friends and actually play the music.

And what music!

Nicholas Harsanyi was the conductor and his wife, Janice, sang the solo soprano part.
