This post is dedicated to my brother, Alan, a clarinetist.

Commissioned by Richard Stoltzman, this was the second of the "Counterpoint" series -- the first was "Vermont Counterpoint" (1982) for flutes.

"New York" was followed by "Electric Counterpoint" first recorded by Pat Metheny, and "Cello Counterpoint" in 2003.

All of these works were originally written for a soloist to perform by overdubbing all the parts.

This recording features 11 clarinets, including 3 bass clarinets.
