CCXXI. DVOŘÁK, Antonin (1841-1904)
Written in New York towards the end of his stay in America, Dvořák wrote it for his children, Toník (10, violin) and Otilie (15, piano).
"It is intended for youths, but even grown-ups, adults, should be able to converse with it."
Grown-ups it is then: the Shaham brothers!
First Movement
Such a pleasant G Major -- springtime, flowers ... see how he drops to V/vi from the subdominant (red arrow) to modulate to the relative minor:
Second Movement
Dvořák must have been out of manuscript paper. It is said he jotted down the idea for this movement on his shirt sleeve on a visit to Minnehaha Falls, Minnesota.
