CCLXV. BACH, J.S. (1685-1750)
In the heyday of the lute, composers usually used lute tablature, instead of the traditional style of notation. This work -- being notated traditionally -- might have been performed on a keyboard or a regular lute.
However, in some unidentified hand, a later manuscript has the words aufs Lauten Werck -- for the lute-harpsichord.
The Bourrée has become a recital piece for the beginner pianist or guitarist. A delightful example of two independent voices in counterpoint.
